The Point Park Project was an initiative of Point Park University which provided a platform for emerging artists and curators in the Pittsburgh area. For the inaugural project, ‘Kaleidoscope’, four University of Pittsburgh students were mentored by The Milton Fine Curator of Art at The Andy Warhol Museum to develop an exhibition for the Lawrence Hall Gallery.
As well as curating the exhibition with 3 fellow classmates, visiting artist studios to hand-select pieces, and working on a gallery map and install, I also handled all marketing and gallery materials. This involved designing a brand for the project, print and web materials, as well as custom gallery wall text for installation.
Despite the age of the project, this remains on my portfolio due to the fact that my work on this project led to a fully paid fellowship with the curator of The Warhol Museum, where I gained an immeasurable amount of experience with the museum’s curatorial and marketing department.
Curating a gallery taught me my foundation of user experience. From concept to completion, this project taught me the importance of design in every step of the process.
This project is also of importance to me because I began to develop my path into graphic design and marketing. Without this project, I would not have decided to leave the curatorial path and pivot into marketing and design.
